We only have the best here in Dartmoor

Two well-known Dartmoor hotels under the same local ownership have picked up four top awards from Taste of the West, the regional organisation which promotes and showcases the best food, drink, retail and hospitality offerings in the South West.

The famous and historic Two Bridges Hotel on Dartmoor, and the elegant Bedford Hotel in Tavistock, have each received two awards – one for their accommodation and one for their food offering which highlights seasonal West Country ingredients.

The Bedford Hotel has also been named as a finalist in the overall hotel category, one of just five finalists in the six counties of the South West region (Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire).

Following their inspection visit to The Bedford Hotel, the independent judges commented: “The food is beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The service was faultless with the staff making the judges feel welcome and valued. This is a charming and elegant building with a lovely relaxing ambience.”

After sampling a meal and overnight stay at the Two Bridges Hotel, the judges said: “The flavours were delicious and the portions generous. The range of breads and flavoured butters was a good start to the meal. The staff are excellent; attentive but not obtrusive. This is a very pleasant hotel with a proper ‘country house hotel’ feel to it and an ideal place for a traditional, relaxing Dartmoor break.”

Jared Lothian, General Manager at the Two Bridges Hotel, commented: “We are honoured and delighted to have been recognised in these prestigious regional awards – a credit to our beautiful Dartmoor location, our historic and much-loved hotel building, the excellent larder of local produce, and of course our hard-working team.”

Leanne Wills, General Manager at The Bedford Hotel, said: “The Taste of the West Awards play such an important part in recognising and showcasing everything that’s great about food, drink and hospitality in our region, and the whole team is delighted and honoured by these awards. To be a finalist in the hotel category for the whole region is the icing on the cake!”

John Sheaves, CEO at Taste of the West, added: “Taste of the West has been organising this awards programme for over two decades and we are constantly delighted at how the quality within the hospitality and retail industry has risen and continues to do so.”
