Hello! Moss the Dartmoor Dog Blogger here. As today (26th August) is National Dog Day, I thought I ought to make a contribution and highlight some of the very best places for us pooches to visit down here on Dartmoor.
This whole area is very dog-friendly and there are miles and miles of wonderful walking, so it is understandable that visitors would want to bring us with them.
Prince Hall Hotel, up near Princetown, is a very dog-friendly place to stay and I have visited there myself. It is in a fab setting up on the moor with wonderful walks on the doorstep. They have lots of great doggy facilities and they even supply complimentary Bob & Lush dog treats in the room! A top spot I think, apart from those pesky cats!.
The White Hart Hotel in Moretonhampstead is my ‘local’, and I love going there as I am always made so welcome by Karen and her team. They always give me doggy treats! They are very dog-friendly and, when we pop into the bar for a quick drink, I get to meet all sorts of interesting four-legged visitors who are staying there on holiday, great fun and a top meeting place!
The Two Bridges Hotel is also up on the moor near Princetown and I have stayed there overnight for one of my reviews – very nice it was too! I relaxed in front of the lounge fire after dinner and generally had a brilliant time.
Two of my favourite walks are both on National Trust land – that’s Parke at Bovey Tracey, and Castle Drogo, near Drewsteignton. You can walk along the river at both places and they are great for dog swimming and general rummaging about! The walking is relatively flat and easy, but you can go rambling off up hillsides and through woods at both of them, so lots of choice. Being National Trust, it easy for your humans to find their way and follow a path so you shouldn’t lose them! If you want more adventure then there’s tons and tons of walks up on the moor itself. But you will need to make sure they take a map and have appropriate footwear.
Happy National Dog Day!
About Moss
I am Moss, a German Wirehaired Pointer and I live on Dartmoor and, let me tell you, it is a great place to be a dog! Not only are there zillions of great places to walk, rivers to jump in and rocky bits to climb, it’s also a really dog friendly place. Pretty much everywhere I go I am welcomed. Pubs and Hotels give me dog biscuits and when I go to events I get to meet lots of my doggy friends. If your people are looking for a place to take you on holiday, Dartmoor is a fab choice.
