The Park Rangers care passionately about Dartmoor; it's a unique protected landscape with rare wildlife and free roaming livestock and ponies. Help them keep Dartmoor special, if they spot you following the code you could win an on-the-spot prize!

Keep you dog on a lead

Dogs love Dartmoor, but please remember that it is a working landscape providing grazing for cattle, sheep and ponies.

Bag up litter and take it home

Litter can be extremely harmful to wildlife, not to mention it looks nasty! Always leave no trace when you visit.

No camping

Follow the latest Covid-19 Government guidelines by staying at home, exercising locally and avoiding unnecessary travel.

Don't feed the ponies

Ponies on Dartmoor are iconic and do a great job of maintaining habitats for wildlife. Keep them safe by admiring from a distance

Share the roads and bridleways

The roads and bridleways on Dartmoor are used by people, animals, vehicles and cyclists, sometimes all at once. Take moor care and slow down.

No fires

Fires can be devastating to the landscape and wildlife, and puts livestock and members of the public at risk.

Report an injured animal

All livestock including ponies are owned by local farmers and commoners. If you come across injured livestock please phone the Livestock portection officer - 07873 587561

Report uncontrolled dogs

Report uncontrolled dogs or sheep attacks directly to the police on 101 or the Livestock Protection officer.
